Can't get a Schengen visa appointment?

Appointments at VFS Global, TLScontact, Capago and BLS in South Africa can run weeks out in peak season, and new slots appear as others cancel. The slots themselves are free, so never pay anyone for one. Finding and booking one is part of our Schengen service, from R2,250 per person.

For most South African applicants the appointment, not the paperwork, is the first thing that goes wrong. Each Schengen country uses one visa centre operator, and when that operator's calendar is full there is no other door.

Who runs the appointments

Each country contracts out its appointments, so the operator depends on where you are going. For example, Germany uses TLScontact, France uses Capago, the Netherlands and Italy use VFS Global, and Spain uses BLS. Every country's page on this site names its operator, and the Schengen guide has the main ones side by side.

What the rules say

The Schengen Visa Code says an appointment should, as a rule, take place within two weeks of when it is requested. That is a target, not a guarantee, and South African centres do not always meet it in peak season. In justified cases of urgency a consulate may see you immediately or without an appointment, but that is for genuine emergencies, not late planning.

What actually helps

  • Check often, at different times of day. Cancellations release slots without warning.
  • Check every centre you are allowed to use. Some countries let you apply in any city they serve; others, such as Spain, assign you a centre by where you live.
  • Book early and prepare afterwards. You can apply up to six months ahead. Holding a slot while you gather documents beats having documents and no slot.
  • Book one slot per person. Each applicant, including each child, needs their own appointment.
  • Look at premium appointments. Some centres sell out-of-hours or premium slots for an extra fee. These are sold by the centre itself and are legitimate.

What not to do

  • Do not pay anyone for the slot itself. Appointments are issued free by the centre. Paying someone to prepare your application, booking included, is a service. Paying someone who claims to sell slots is not.
  • Do not switch countries to find an earlier date. Your application belongs to the country of your main destination. A consulate that is not responsible for your trip will not process it.

What our Schengen service costs

From R2,250 per person when there is time to book a normal appointment, up to R4,950 per person for a last-minute application. Embassy and visa-centre fees are separate and paid directly to them.

The quote is free and carries no obligation. UK, US, Canada and Australia applications are quoted per case.

Prices are a guide and subject to change. Your fee depends on your individual needs and circumstances, and you are quoted for your case, in writing, before any work starts.

Frequently asked questions

Demand outstrips slots in peak season, especially before the December holidays and the European summer. New slots appear as others cancel, so checking often helps, as does booking early. You can apply up to six months ahead.

Cannot find a slot before your trip?

Appointment booking is part of the service: we look for the earliest slot and prepare the application so it is ready when you get one. Schengen applications start at R2,250 per person.
